Toast with Fig Sauce and Mascarpone

I think creating a simple and unique dessert is one of the toughest dishes to come up with. My wife and I had a great dried fig sauce dessert at a Croation Konoba for her 40th birthday dinner that sparked my mind to create this dish. Thick, toasty, chewy bread is a great base for a dried fig sauce spiced with cinnamon, cardamom and anise. To serve, a dalop of cold, creamy, sweet whipped mascarpone and some fresh basil beautifully counter the warm sauced toast.
